Skye Dental Group – The Glasgow Dentist

The Skye Dental Group has some of Glasgow’s most established, hygienic and professional practices under its umbrella. This includes The Glasgow Dentist, based in the area of Glasgow.

The practice offers a range of private dental treatments such as teeth straightening systems, Damon Braces, Invisalign and Six Month Smiles, as well as dental implants for missing teeth and general dentistry and hygienist services.

Damon Braces

Damon Braces are a fixed brace teeth treatment, but instead of the traditional elastic or metal bands used in traditional braces, it uses friction-free technology to straighten the teeth quickly and painlessly.

The braces use friction-free technology and self-ligating memory wires to move the teeth gently. The brackets use a sliding mechanism, and the braces are much lighter and finer than traditional fixed braces.

Invisalign are a series of custom-made clear aligners, which are worn for two weeks at a time and then replaced with the next set in the series until your teeth are straightened. The aligners should be worn for around 21 hours a day to maximise the straightening results.

The clear aligners can be easily removed, which enables the patient to clean and floss their teeth with ease. They are also virtually invisible, so the teeth straightening system is very discreet.

Six Month Smiles

Six Month Smiles is a fixed brace system, which straightens the teeth within six months. It usually focuses on the front teeth and is much lighter and more discreet than traditional fixed braces.

They are great if you have a big event such as a wedding or special occasion coming up and you need your teeth straightening within a relatively short period of time.

The practice offers free consultations and may be able to offer interest-free finance options. Call 0141 647 6227 for further information.

Queens Road Braces

Dental braces are devices used in orthodontics to help align, straighten and re-position teeth as required, whilst also aiming to improve the overall dental health of a patient. They are used to correct a number of dental issues including overcrowding, gaps, under bites, malocclusions, overbites, cross bites, open bites, deep bites and crooked teeth.
The process of straightening teeth not only improves the aesthetics of your face but can also greatly improve your speech, ability to eat and the overall hygiene of your mouth.

Are Braces suitable for me?

Braces are very common with nearly 1 million people in the UK starting orthodontic treatment last year. In fact, around one in three British children has crooked teeth and will require a brace to straighten them.

Orthodontic treatment aberdeen is free on the NHS for under 18’s who need it. Usually more successful in children, the optimum age for treatment is around 12-13 years old while the teeth are still developing, although orthodontic treatment is becoming increasingly popular with many adults now choosing to pay for treatment.
For those who may be keen to straighten their teeth in adulthood but are put off by the idea of having noticeable train track braces for a number of years there are now a number of alternative modern options.

Many are more subtle and aesthetically pleasing- making use of materials including clear or white brackets and wires with others such as Invisalign ® almost impossible to see at all. Some are removable and others offer shorter treatment times by focusing solely on your front teeth.
Before braces are placed on your teeth your Dentist will thoroughly check your mouth to ensure there is no underlying decay or gum problems and to ensure that all of your teeth are structurally healthy enough to withstand movement.
Braces can be fixed or removable.

There are many different types of braces. Some are removable and can be taken out (for example to clean your teeth or for eating) whilst other are fixed. NHS braces are usually made of metal but those opting for private treatment can choose from a wider range of materials- including ceramic, white, and ‘invisible’ braces- although these are usually more expensive.
Most commonly used, fixed braces consist of the ‘traditional’ metal brackets bonded directly to the front surface of your teeth with very thin metal wires used to gently push or pull your teeth into the desired position.

This process can take several years and regular check-ups, adjustments and tightening will be required throughout.
Lingual braces are also available and these can be fixed onto the back (inside) surfaces of your teeth rather than the outside so that they are less noticeable.
Removable braces can be used when you are still growing or if you still have baby teeth left.
