NW London Smile Centre – Dentists in Swiss Cottage, Kilburn and Cricklewood

The NW London Smile Centre is comprised of three separate dental practices, based in Swiss Cottage, Kilburn and Cricklewood, but each facility has the same simple ethos, which is to provide excellent dental care. They have become an integral part of the local community for the past twenty years and are looking forward to caring for the teeth and gums of their community for the next twenty years to come.

The main focus at each practice is to have happy and satisfied patients, who have healthy teeth and gums today and into the future. The three locations offer a relaxed, friendly environment with treatments performed by professional, highly-trained staff.

There are many cosmetic dentistry treatments on offer at all three practices. These include teeth whitening and teeth straightening. Using the latest computer imaging technology, they can chat through the best, tailor-made solutions for you and show you the potential results and how these would look. You can discuss what you don’t like about your teeth or smile, and then they can offer solutions to address this.

Teeth Straightening – Six Month Smiles

One of the teeth straightening options on offer is Six Month Smiles, which is a short-term orthodontic solution to getting straighter teeth. It uses clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires, which are barely visible. The average treatment time is six months, hence the name. They are also typically less expensive in the long run than traditional braces or aligners or veneers.

Teeth Whitening

There are different reasons why people may want their teeth to be whitened. It can be as a result of teeth staining from smoking, or food and drink or from ageing or can even sometimes be an adverse reaction to medication. It’s important to see a professional dentist to discuss your best teeth whitening options. Our dentist will recommend the best teeth whitening option based on your oral condition and will be happy to explain the various types of whitening treatments, the duration and frequency of treatment.

Further information for any of the NW London centres or treatments can be found on their website or Facebook page.

Richard attends courses to develop his knowledge and understanding of the cosmetic aspect of dentistry. He understands that this is a field which more people are becoming interested in as there is much more emphasis placed on people’s appearance. He has three children, Natalie, Alex and Sophie who have now grown up and almost left home. He has many interests, especially in house conservation and restoration; with these distractions it has meant that his musical career has to remain on hold.

In 1991 Nigel joined Wood & Woolfstein as a partner. He states that ‘so much has changed since then’ especially in huge advances in technology, techniques, materials and equipment. Nigel ensures that he stays up-to-date with these changes by attending numerous post-graduate courses. Nigel takes pride in treating different generations of his patients, which is a testament to the professionality and care that the team at the practice put in. Nigel relishes the challenge of taking on many complex cases as well as creating beautiful smiles. Nigel stays involved via charity work with his ‘Fundraising Football’ organization. Through numerous football competitions the organization has been able to raise funds for The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

South Coast Dental – Are Dental Implants suitable for me?

There have been many advancements in dental implant technology, and this has created a rise in patient interest in this area. Many dental practices are getting more enquiries about dental implants than ever.

They are seen to be becoming the most popular choice for replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Dental implants can restore both appearance and functionality of the tooth. Therefore, many patients have discovered they are the best solution to build up their confidence after losing teeth as well as restoring the full use of their teeth. Below, we explore dental implants further and ask whether they are right for you?

Dental implants – what are they and how do they work?

A dental implant, in simple terms, acts just like your tooth root. It can be used to fix a crown, bridge or dentures to it. The Implants are usually made of titanium and are implanted into the jawbone. After the implants have been placed, the bone in your jaw needs to fuse with the implant. This healing and fusing process can take between 3-6 months. The implants make an extremely secure base for the artificial tooth to be then fixed onto.

Some of the advantages and disadvantages of dental implants?

  • They are sturdy and will not move
  • Function as real teeth
  • Don’t need to be removed like dentures
  • Safe and permanent
  • They can improve chewing and eating difficulties
  • Can increase a person’s confidence as missing teeth and gaps are replaced or filled
  • Fills gaps that can attract bacteria from trapped food
  • Can minimise face sagging, which might occur when many teeth are missing
  • They can stop other nearby teeth from moving around
  • They don’t affect your remaining teeth
  • They can improve speech
  • Can clean them like normal teeth

  • Larger upfront cost if you need multiple implants
  • Seen as an investment for longer-term solution
  • You need to undergo minor surgery
  • Can not be removed

Dental implants  – how safe are they?

Dental implants are usually made of titanium, a biocompatible material that is accepted by the body. This means that generally speaking, dental implants are safe, and 95% of dental implants are a success. However, with any surgery, there is a risk, and with dental implants, there is a small risk that the patient could develop an infection or potential nerve damage.

If however, you look after your dental implants meticulously and keep to the requested dental hygiene and follow up appointments, the risk is minimal.

If you do have any missing teeth or are suffering from ill-fitting, uncomfortable dentures, you don’t have to suffer in silence. Dental implants might be the solution you are looking for.

Feel free to make an appointment at our South Coast dental practices based in Wimborne or Dorchester to discuss your options further.
