Knebworth Dental Implants

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are a functional, safe and long term solution to replacing one or more missing teeth. They can also be used to support fixed bridges and dentures.
They are a suitable option for most people, no matter your age, the condition of your teeth or the number of implants you require.
Dental implants work by mimicking the structure of a natural tooth with a titanium root placed into the bone in your jaw and a manufactured porcelain crown fixed to the top. The implant will look just as natural as your other teeth and once established will be well fixed and strong. They don’t move around- like dentures can- so feel more comfortable and secure.
With a good oral hygiene routine and regular dental check-ups your implant should last many years meaning that it is a highly successful and cost-effective alternative to a number of other treatments.
A missing tooth, or teeth, can cause various personal and practical issues in your everyday life. Eating, chewing and speech- not to mention general self-esteem- can be seriously affected by sore gums or gaps. Likewise, loose or poorly fitted dentures can be uncomfortable and embarrassing- meaning that you might avoid eating certain foods you might otherwise enjoy.
As well as the aesthetics and lifestyle issues there are a number of oral health problems which can occur as result. When a tooth is missing your jawbone can degenerate over time due to a lack of stimulation – this in turn can cause premature ageing in your face. Replacement of a tooth also helps to prevent your remaining teeth from moving or twisting and food getting stuck in gaps and potentially causing gum disease.

Dental implants at Knebworth Dental can help to significantly improve your quality of life on a number of levels, enabling you to feel happy and confident again.

Are you fed up with missing teeth or uncomfortable, loose dentures?
One or more missing teeth or uncomfortable and loose fitting dentures can cause a number of personal and practical issues in your day to day life.
Not only is the impact on your self-confidence significant but eating and speaking can become increasingly difficult.
With one or more missing teeth, the health of your mouth can be compromised. Bacteria build up in any gaps can increase your chances of developing gum disease and tooth decay. This can also lead to bad breath.

If you have several missing teeth, those that remain can start to move or twist- resulting in spacing or misalignment.
Loose dentures which move around in your mouth can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. Often wearers will avoid eating certain foods or try not to smile or talk too much as the dentures are very obvious and unattractive.

There is another way.
Dental implants offer a functional, safe and long term solution which could significantly help to improve your quality of life, helping you to feel confident, comfortable and happy once again.
Dental implants are suitable for most people, no matter their age, the condition of their teeth or the number that need to be replaced. The main points to consider before surgery are your overall general health, the condition of your gums and that you have good standards of oral hygiene.
At Marsh Road Dental we specialise in the placement of dental implants and are very pleased to accept referrals from other dental practices. Our highly skilled and professional staff have wide-ranging experience in the area of dental implants and the success rate of our surgery is over 90%.

A dental implant is a specially engineered replacement for a missing or badly decayed tooth. It can also be an effective alternative to loose-fitting or uncomfortable dentures. Implants work by successfully replicating a natural tooth- with a titanium screw acting as the root and a strong porcelain crown fitting on top to replace it. The result is a securely fixed, hard-wearing and natural looking implant which can have a number of benefits- both aesthetically and health-wise.
A missing tooth may not be causing you any problems at the moment but in the long-term it could result in a number of issues.

• A missing tooth can have a significant effect on your overall facial features. Each time you eat your gums and supporting bones are stimulated by your teeth. If this stops then the supporting bone can start to shrink. Over time, as bone density and volume decreases the muscle and skin on your face can start to sag- resulting in premature ageing.
• When a tooth is missing your remaining teeth can move or twist meaning that they become misaligned or crooked.
• If you have gaps then food and bacteria can get easily trapped increasing your risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
• Missing teeth can make it harder to eat certain foods.
• Depending on where it is a missing tooth can also cause problems with speech.
• If your gap is very visible you may feel self-conscious and lacking in confidence. Many people actively avoid particular social situations, having photographs taken or struggle with work because they are embarrassed by their missing tooth or teeth.

Dental Implants are available at Queens Cross Dental, Aberdeen.

Dental Implants at Ivy Dental

Ivy Dental Practice
What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants at Ivy Dental Edinburgh, effectively replace the roots of your natural teeth and support a manufactured crown or bridge. The implant is usually made from strong titanium and once implanted in your jaw, bone fuses naturally onto the surface of the implant establishing a solid base for the manufactured tooth to be fixed to. This itself is made of porcelain so that it gives a finish as natural looking as your own teeth.
It can take up to 6 months for implants to establish and before the crown or bridge can be fitted. Temporary restoration and full dentures can be worn until it is possible to fit the final tooth. The procedure is generally carried out under local anaesthetic unless specific requirements dictate a sedative is required.
Good general health is important and patients with diabetes or who are heavy smokers have a greater risk of developing gum disease or infections following surgery. A good oral hygiene routine is important in order to avoid infection and discomfort.
Overall, each treatment is unique and individual requirements will be discussed with you before starting.
Implants have a very good overall success rate (around 95%) and with regular long-term care they can last for many years.
Dental Implants are available at Ivy Dental, Implant Dentist in Edinburgh.
